Weaving Glitches – cloth one

In the first cloth for my Weaving Glitches research, I tried to almost literally implement graphic computer glitches into a weave. I used black lines in the warp, which sometimes reoccur in the wefts. Furthermore, I used diagonal arrangements in the warp in different variations, and something based on the echo weaving technique. After first weaving a predesigned plan, partly based on Ocular Aurora, I experimented further on structures and patterns I got in that first part.

Diagonal
Enthusiastic about the diagonals in Ocular Aurora, I tried a variation on them in this part of canvas one. In the warp, I made a variation of three networked diagonals, instead of the two in Ocular Aurora. On the left in the example below. In the right part of this example, I made staggered diagonals with the aim of getting small structures or patterns.

Digital noise
By adjusting the tie-up, the area at the top right of the weave drawing, I created a kind of noise. This comes across better when viewing the canvas from a distance. The idea behind this was to replicate the fluctuating interference of pixels that I have seen more often in my past work in computer aid due, to defects in the graphics card or internal cabling of computers.

Swirl
This effect is actually more reminiscent of tuning a TV channel on an old analog television. I remember how I could sit behind the tube playing with the waves and noise between those few channels that existed back then. In this part of the fabric, I tried to get glitches by varying the weft and changing colors.

The variations of cloth one in a zip file. Be aware, this is a bit messy! Since I work with the tie-up drawing when designing, and then convert it into the lift-plan to weave it on my table loom, I overwrote some files with the original binding drawing. With an 8 shaft table loom, this is not a problem of course. Thereby the tie-up, if you need it, can often be retrieved from the lift-plan vairations.
