A Story of Unfolding Wings

Nederlandse versie hier.

In the last few months, everything has come together. I wove a fifth cloth for the chapters Unmasked and Serenity, I went with Noa to the textile workshop NOOF in Eindhoven to embroider the titles, and Eefje played in the final soundtrack recordings, with Jasper’s help. And now A Story of Unfolding Wings is really finished, and I am so happy with the result, especially also how Eefje’s violin playing and the images work together!

The premiere!
On April 12, the first showing of A Story of Unfolding Wings will be at WORM Rotterdam in the Ubik performance night Salon of Queer Indoctrinations!
Be welcome!

Glitching Threads

Last week I completed my Weaving Glitches research! This research has allowed me to grow immensely in the weaving craft. I wove four cloths of around two meters, picking up a challenge from the cloth before it in each cloth to experiment even further.

Shuffle weaving technique
In weaving software, I always prepared the next set of wefts, and by doing so over time I found that I could design more intuitively by manipulating the binding drawing. Which after designing could be converted into the wefts, which I then weaved. As a result, I came up with my own weaving technique that I called the Shuffle weaving technique. It is a weaving technique in the early stages, I am far from finished with it. And whether or not it will be picked up by others, for me it is an ideal way of working.

Work on commission
In addition to exploring new patterns and color combinations, I also wanted to build portfolio. In the coming time, I will begin my search for places for exposure. It has already yielded some success! Last week I delivered my first fabric on commission, a table runner based on the first Weaving Glitches weave, at fair pay. My client is super happy with the work, and can now spend hours looking at all those wonderfully complex weaving patterns.

aboutAwoman & taking a small break..

Did you know that only 13% of the work in museums is made by women? The Mama Cash Foundation did a study on it. I hope the situation has improved somewhat by now. The exhibition IN YOUR FACE 2.0 by aboutAwoman, is a cry for attention to this subject, through 118 portraits of Rotterdam women. I also contributed a portrait.

Opening April 5, 3-7 p.m. at de Doelen Art.
I will also be present at the opening!
The exhibition is free to enter, and runs through April 27.

Short break
To get to the Serenity stage, I have one more (corrective) surgery to undergo. This one is very soon, and because of the surgery there is a short weaving break. Although I am already setting up the looms, to weave the first wefts of two new weaves as soon as I can again! After that, big new plans again. Time will tell… And this newsletter!

Lots of love from Stellata ♡
