Newsletter September ’25

GRAW Rotterdam

Nederlandse versie hier.

On the weekend of September 20 and 21 it’s time again for the Great Rotterdam Atelier Weekend. I don’t have a studio of my own right now, but I’m lucky to join Marleen de Puydt and Nonuko Hayashi in their shared space DOT!

You’ll find my newest series Ocular Glitches and Glitching Mermaids, alongside works from Weaving Glitches and A Story of Unfolding Wings. Believe me, it’s worth experiencing the pieces in real life — to see them, to touch them!

I’d love for you to come by! On Saturday I’ll be away, volunteering at a workshop for trans voice therapists elsewhere in the country. But on Sunday I’ll be there in person! My works will be on view both days, and the new Glitches series will also be available for purchase.

Saturday 20 & Sunday 21 September, 11 am – 5 pm
DOT, Van Heusdestraat 39, 3023 RN Rotterdam (west)

TranScreen on Tour – Filmhuis Den Haag

I feel honored that TranScreen has selected my film A Story of Unfolding Wings for TranScreen On Tour!

How wonderful that their words resonate so closely with the purpose of A Story of Unfolding Wings! And finally, my film will be shown on the big screen – I can’t wait to experience that.
Will you join me?

Transcreen on Tour, Sunday, October 5, starting at 10:30 am.
Exact times will be announced – keep an eye on their website or my Instagram.

A Story of Unfolding Wings
A Story of Unfolding Wings is a short abstract stop-motion film composed of colorful woven frames. By weaving the frames for the film on a handloom, Stellata Koppe created a sensitive travelogue about her transition, in which the violin sound of Eefje Habraken is indispensable. A document through which she wants to show how important transitioning can be for trans people.

Persoonlijk

Below a photo of my latest weave from the Ocular Glitches series. Yes, fully trans-vibed. My last (recovery) surgery in April went well, and I’ve long been joyfully bouncing around again. The surgeries are covered, but it’s still a challenge to turn your whole life – including your artistic practice – upside down. But in a way, every weave begins with a warp. And I like warping too!

And I keep on weaving! In the coming months my focus is on building visibility: creating a booklet with my weaves, reaching out to galleries, museums, exhibition spaces and film festivals.

Tips are more than welcome!

Wishing you a beautiful autumn, and I hopefully see you soon!

Love,
Stellata ♡

P.S. Check out my my webshop – even if only to admire my latest weaves.
