Weaving Glitches – cloth two

A number of factors glitched when I was composed in my mother’s womb. I think my love of glitches arose from my struggles in society when I did not yet know for myself that my identity was so diverse and interesting. When I look in the mirror now I see mostly my femininity, but also bits from the testosterone era of my life. All together is who I am.

Weaving Glitches was a research project in which I looked for a way to translate graphic computer glitches, or the visual beauty I find in them, into woven textiles. To do this, I adapted existing weaving techniques, hacked them, in order to weave different patterns in different color blends, that reminded me of such interferences. Gradually I noticed that I got particularly interesting glitches if I played with the so called tie-up drawing during the design process. From this came the Shuffle weaving technique.

In this second weave, I continued on patterns and textures I encountered in cloth one, and began focused manipulation of the tie-up drawing, which I later called the Shuffle weaving technique.
